mimibec First of all, your voices are magical together, and this is exactly the type of lyrics and melody that launch me into my happy place. Uplifting, soothing, so apropos for these times. Thank you, Brit and Jason!

about

Jason and Brit were friends and songwriting partners in a band called Cautiontape that broke up in 2016. After both went through some life changes and other projects, Jason found himself with some time to kill before a delayed rehearsal. Inspired by an article about the 15th anniversary of Garageband, and having recently acquired a Korg Minilogue that he was still fiddling with learning, he set about creating a piece using drum loops and synth parts. He knew right away that his new creation was going to require female vocals, so he called up his friend Brit to help out. In a few back and forth writing sessions, the two hammered out lyrics and made plans to record the vocals the next week with another good friend, Don Cento, engineering. The whole track came together quickly in the spirit of the early days of recording, and in the suddenly challenging times of spring 2020, the lyrics took on a new meaning.

"We didn't realize it, because really we were just writing about our own relationship and our relationships with our loved ones, but it ended up being about moving forward together, despite the distance, whether it's actual physical distance or emotional distance. You know whatever happens, you'll get through it together."

lyrics

Don’t be afraid to say what’s on your mind
When you love somebody
I know it feels like it’s all on the line
When you love somebody
So what’s the point of forgetting the past
If you only think about how it never lasts

With you I’m turning sad into song
With you I’m moving farther along
With you I’m bringing night into dawn
With you I’m moving farther along

I was on my own so long I forgot I was somebody
And I know it’s been a while since you needed anybody

With you I’m turning sad into song
With you I’m moving farther along
With you I’m bringing night into dawn
With you I’m moving farther along

Something in your eyes
Something in your smile
Something in your heart says let go

With you I’m turning sad into song
With you I’m moving farther along
With you I’m bringing night into dawn
With you I’m moving farther along
